New Music Alert: Album Review for Pop Evil’s ‘Versatile’

On May 20, Pop Evil released their sixth studio album, Versatile. It opens with “Let The Chaos Reign” which is a bit heavier than I expected from Pop Evil. “Breathe Again,” one of my favorites on the album, was released back in November. To me, it’s a song about finally knowing you’re able to move on, full of empowering lyrics, such as “learning that my scars won’t bleed again.” “Work” has a beat that draws you in. Beginning with a slow start, “Inferno” is full of a dramatic sound accentuated by the strings throughout the song.

“Human Nature” begins with somewhat of a twangy guitar riff. This would definitely be a good song to hear live, with lots of fun spots to clap along to. One song I fell in love with right away is “Worst In Me.” It’s an emotional song with some more electronic elements mixed in. “Same Blood” has a steady beat with lyrics that contain references to a few of Pop Evil’s previous singles. Versatile closes with “Fire Inside,” an inspirational song showing that you’ll still survive no matter what happens.

It’s been a few years since Pop Evil’s self-titled album dropped, and Versatile shows how they have been able to incorporate some different sounds throughout the album. There’s an overall theme of empowerment and strength woven throughout the tracks. While some songs didn’t do much for me, others I really liked, including “Stronger (The Time Is Now),” “Same Blood,” and “Fire Inside.” Pop Evil just announced their summer and fall US tour, so be sure to check out the dates here.
