iDKHOW & Joywave End Their Amazing “Welcome to Hellvetica” Tour in Richmond

After touring all across the country, the Welcome To Hellvetica tour had its final stop in Richmond, Virginia last week, and it was a night to remember! The tour featured I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW for short) and Joywave as co-headliners with Savannah Conley opening, and many surprises in store! Excitement hung in the air as everyone in the venue waited for the concert to start.

To everyone’s surprise, the first act was not the aforementioned Savannah Conley, but instead Clibbus! Wearing a bright blue suit and a headlamp, he sang with a mannequin head atop a ladder while he threw a banana, several hot dog buns, and a very long measuring tape out into the crowd. In general, people love to catch stuff from the stage, so you already know everyone was clamoring to grab one of the buns from the air. During one of his songs “This Is Sick“, several members from the other bands and tour crew fanned out behind Clibbus and helped him with his dances, much to the crowd’s bewilderment and delight.

Savannah Conley took to the stage shortly after! If the crowd wasn’t already hyped, now they were! With her amazing voice and her band rocking out with her, the audience loved her immediately. She got the crowd to sing along during her song, “Always Gonna Happen“, and everyone was bopping along to “Dream Boy“! She noted that we’re a sincere crowd as she heard someone shout “you’re doing a great job!”, and that person certainly wasn’t wrong!

With two great openers come and gone, it was time for the first of our two headliners of the night! The lights dimmed, and the rear lights of the car onstage turned on as Joywave walked out. They started off with a great mixture of songs, going from “Coming Apart“, to “Buy American“, to “Tongues” all within the first three! And during “Tongues”, a whole section of the pit organized themselves to get down low to the ground and start jumping like crazy during the chorus.

Near the end of the set, lead singer Daniel Armbruster explained that they never used to perform their song “Dangerous” live, but over the pandemic they heard that astronauts were listening to it in space! After finding that out, they figured the least they could do was to start performing it live. And it’s a good thing they did! The crowd absolutely loved all the funky bass rifts, but what really got everyone excited was when they played “Destruction“! A fan favorite for sure, people were jumping and rocking out, and went crazy over getting to hear it twice in a row as Joywave hit us with that “Double Destruction“!

And finally, iDKHOW took to the stage! They started off strong with “Choke” and the crowd went wild! They played through “Clusterhug“, “Leave Me Alone“, and “Social Climb” before throwing it way back with “A Letter” a song from lead singer Dallon Weekes old band The Brobecks. Everyone loved getting to hear that song live, as so many people were singing along to it! Halfway through their set, they also covered “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” by Belinda Carlisle, but with a little bit of a rock twist to it.

It was about time for the encore, but instead of doing “the fake final song thing” as Dallon put it, they stayed out onstage with everyone and went right into the final few songs. Getting the audience to stomp and clap along, they started performing “Nobody Likes the Opening Band“. Explaining midway through that the song itself isn’t how the title makes it sound, they invited Daniel of Joywave and Savannah Conley back out to sing a funny little verse they wrote for each other. Clibbus even made a hilarious reappearance, much to everyone’s amusement. And ending the night with aptly named “Kiss Goodnight”, iDKHOW put on a show no one could forget!

With such an incredible show put on from everyone involved, the Welcome to Hellvetica tour was absolutely unforgettable!
