Halsey To Release Fourth Studio Album, ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’

Singer-songwriter powerhouse Halsey (she/they) has made quite a name for herself over the past several years, skyrocketing into stardom with her unique singing voice, concept albums that get fans hooked, and her activism for LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and racial equality. With all three previous studio albums certified Platinum and has sold over 150 million adjusted singles, expectations are high for Halsey’s next record. And it seems that they’re coming back from the pandemic full force with lots for fans to look forward to!

Halsey unveiled the cover for their next album, titled If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Walking through all the maternal artwork in the reveal video, it immediately sets the tone for the concept of the album. Check out the video down below:

In a social media post about the new record, Halsey writes: “This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being. This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!”

Halsey wrote the songs for this album herself and recorded the album with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, best known for their work in Nine Inch Nails and as Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy-winning film/TV composers.

So far in their career, Halsey’s expanded their reach from music and stretched their creative muscles into other mediums. Her first book, I Would Leave Me If I Could: A Collection of Poetry, had debuted on The New York Times Best Sellers list last November. They also launched their own makeup line, about-face, a vegan and cruelty-free makeup brand made for anyone to wear, regardless of gender or skin tone.

But that’s not it, she’s recently announced a theatrical release for her new film bearing the same name as her next album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, exclusively in IMAX theaters!
