Alternative rock band Weezer released their self-titled album, also known as the White Album, April 1st. Weezer’s first two albums, the Blue Album and Pinkerton, are considered masterpieces and are still adored by fans. Everything Weezer has released after the first records have been held up to those standards. So far, Weezer’s new material has fallen short to the first two albums. Surprisingly, this release is very different.
The White Album has Weezer’s classic sound with a Beach Boys vibe. The first song on the album is “California Kids”. This song has a chill, California vibe and catchy lyrics. The song starts with the sound of the ocean and seagulls in the background. Then goes to the whole band playing in synchronized harmony.
The White Album most definitely produced classic songs such as “King of the World” and “Thank God for Girls”. Both songs have that nerdy sound and sweet lyrics people have come to know and love with Weezer. Just like their classic “Beverly Hills”, both songs have an underdog vibe and a feel good sound. These songs will be remembered as top songs of the alternative tracks.
The White Album is one of those albums that after one or two listens people will be able to hum or even sing all the words to every song on the tracklist. With cleverly written lyrics and good vibes, the White Album is not an album to miss out on. In my opinion, Weezer will go down in history as one of the top alternative bands.
