Korn’s inimitable frontman, Jonathan Davis, is setting out on the road to promote his first solo album, Black Labyrinth, which was 11 years in the making. The album was released via Sumerian Records on May 25, and is stacked with 13 masterfully crafted songs, some of which are already set to stunning visuals, like “Everyone”, and the album’s closing track, “What It Is”.
It was 2007 when Davis’s original solo project, Jonathan Davis And The SFA (Simply Fucking Amazings), first formed and released a live CD/DVD package entitled, Alone I Play, in which the band performed originals as well as rarely performed Korn songs. Some years passed still with the intent of releasing a full album of original content, but Davis announced that the moniker The SFA was officially dissolved after the band’s guitarist, Shane Gibson, died in 2014 at the age of 35. In 2017, Davis confirmed the imminence of the long-awaited album and that it would simply be known as Jonathan Davis.
This tour will be supported by two lively and experienced acts, both from the American record label, Metropolis: The Birthday Massacre, and Julien-K.
The Birthday Massacre (formerly Imagica) is a Toronto-based dark wave, goth rock band that has been working since 1999. Their seventh full-length album, Under Your Spell, reached #37 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums list and was fan-funded through PledgeMusic.
Julien-K is from Long Beach, California, and is comprised of two original members of Orgy, Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh, plus Anthony “Fu” Valcic. Ryan Shuck has a deep history of working with people with musical clout, including none other than Jonathan Davis. Shuck and Davis met in Bakersfield, California, in 1989 and formed a band called Sexart. Davis departed from Sexart to join Korn in 1993 but not without songs ready in his arsenal that was co-written by Shuck, including “Blind” and “Daddy”.
Davis played multiple instruments on this album, but its list of personnel is not lacking. Session players for Black Labyrinth include some impressive names like Korn drummer, Ray Luzier, and Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland.
