In October 2017, The Summer Set announced an indefinite hiatus after ten years together as a band. Now five years later they are back with their latest album, Blossum, which is being released on September 9th. The pop band is comprised of Brian Logan Dales (vocals, piano), Jess Bowen (drums), John Gomez (guitar, vocals, production), and Stephen Gomez (bass, production). Leading up to the album’s release, the band released the singles, “Street Lightning”, “Back Together”, “Teenagers” (feat. Against The Current), “Hard Candy”, and their latest track “FTS” (feat. Travie McCoy).

Speaking about the new album Dales says “By definition, Blossom means ‘to mature or develop in a promising or healthy way. ’So, that’s what we did. We had to go our separate ways as a band for a few years so we could all bloom into the people we’ve become today. This is an album about growth and togetherness. About letting go of the past and looking forward to the future.”

The Summer Set started as a upbeat pop punk band with their debut album Love Like This. However, subsequent albums took them in a alternative rock direction. Blossom continues this path with a collection of introspective slower tempo songs.

“FTS” features rapper Travie McCoy. It’s about living life for yourself. “We wrote the first version of this song almost 8 years ago, so it’s crazy to us that it’s finally gonna see the light of day,” shares vocalist Brian Logan Dales. “It’s our own little gospel about how important it is to mind your own business, love who you love, and do whatever it is that makes you happy. Life is short. Do what you love and drown out the rest.” We threw a Hail Mary and asked Travie McCoy to feature on this song at the very last minute and hearing him yell “It’s Travie!” on a Summer Set song in 2022 is so surreal, “he says on working with Travie McCoy. “In all seriousness though, Travie gave this song some real heart, and reminded us that the silver lining of 2020 was that everyone had a chance to slow down, work on themselves, and carve out some space to grow. We’re honored he’s a part of it.”

“Hard Candy” explores lessons learned from making the wrong choices. There was a period of my life living in LA where I was really addicted to a lifestyle full of things that felt good in the moment but were really bad for me,” shares vocalist Brian Logan Dales. “There were many late nights filled with reckless habits that would end with a drunken phone call to the same person— ultimately crawling back to their bed. This is a song about those nights, and how awful they would feel the morning after— even though time and time again I would keep coming back for more.”

Fans were able to see the band earlier this summer on the Sad Summer Fest tour performing alongside other bands including State Champs, Mayday Parade, and Water Parks. Now they have the chance to listen to the band’s first new album in five years. Those that enjoyed their previous three albums should be pleased with the results of the new release. In addition to the new album, The Summer Set have announced a headlining show on November 3 at The Regent Theatre in Los Angeles. All tickets are on sale now at https://www.thesummerset.com.
