Heavy hitters Spiritbox played a remarkable sold-out show at The House of Blues in Anaheim last week. This show marked the very first headliner for Spiritbox in southern California. The 2,200-capacity venue was shaking all night from start to finish with support from Brand of Sacrifice and Dayseeker. Both acts delivered two very different styles of metal, both of which we adored. Dayseeker, a post-hardcore band out of Orange County, California had a bit of a homecoming which surely was reflected in the crowd’s anticipation. Their sound is a generous blend of post-hardcore and metalcore. They make a great starter band for any first time metalcore listener.
Toronto-based deathcore band Brand of Sacrifice had people spiraling in disbelief after an intense set that had the rafters rumbling. This band is truly an out-of-body experience. They may take the stage to the Pokémon theme song, but don’t let that fool you… there is an avalanche of heaviness to follow — we highly recommend giving them a listen. (Be sure to check out our previous interview with Brand of Sacrifice here.)
Spiritbox kicked off their set with “Circle With Me” and “Hurt You,” setting the crowd off almost immediately. The energy radiating from powerhouse vocalist Courtney LaPlante was felt in our bones as it flowed through the venue. With such a badass stage presence, we couldn’t help but to be mesmerized. Fans could not get enough of LaPlante’s movement across the stage and interaction with the audience. Guitarist Mike Stringer (did we mention he and LaPlante are married?) and current bassist Josh Gilbert (former As I Lay Dying) absolutely tore up the stage with seamless performances and enthusiasm. Drummer Zev Rose laid down a flawless beat which tied together the band’s phenomenal live sound.
The biggest thrill of the night was the live debut of “Hysteria” — a track from the band’s most recently released EP, Rotoscope, which came out earlier in June of this year. We encourage you to catch Spiritbox the next time they are in your area. The experience of their live performance is unforgettable, and we promise you will leave blown away.
