RXPTRS Release Genre Blending Album Living Without Death’s Permission

RXPTRS released their new album, Living Without Death’s Permission, on June 24th via Metal Blade Records.  The Bristol, UK band was named one of the Top 20 rising UK bands to keep an eye on in 2020. Leading up to the album’s release, the band released singles for “Demons in My Headphones”, “Collapse”, “Gutterflies”, “Rock Bottom (Is a Stepping Stone)”, and their latest “The Frail“. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Oz Craggs at Hidden Track Studios in the port town of Folkestone in Kent. Craggs has worked with bands such as Neck Deep, Gallows, and Rolo Tomassi.

Living Without Death’s Permission is a phrase vocalist Simon Roach coined following a near-fatal accident. “I nearly got decapitated in a horrendous car crash a few years back. It was a bit of a miracle, and since that, I’ve kinda looked at life differently… I wanted to touch on subjects that bring me joy, baffle me, disgust me, entertain me and so on. I have a lot to say, and if I am gonna die, I’m gonna throw my two cents everywhere while I can,” he says.

Roach along with guitarist Ian Chadderton, guitarist Harley Watson, bass player Sam Leworthy, and drummer Mat Capper have put together an album comprising elements of metal, punk, hardcore, rock and even a little jazz.  The band hits the accelerator right from the start, only momentary braking. “Collapse” is a good representation of what the listener will hear on the album. Roach seamlessly transitions from haunting melodic metal vocals to Beastie Boys style hardcore punk. The guitar and drum layers are very rhythmic with a typical metal sound.

Roach says “We never approach anything with a genre or an audience in mind, it has to be what we’re feeling in that moment. If it comes out punk, sick, if it sounds metal, awesome, if it doesn’t sound like anything else, even better. Nothing’s off the table. We all come from different backgrounds and have all been inspired by so many different genres, we wanted to hear a sound that mixed all those influences, so we thought, ‘let’s be that band’. I totally get that genres help steer people, but we don’t want that stability. I feel like nothing great can come from a comfort zone.”
