Album Review | Emery Drops Cutthroat Record “Rub Some Dirt On It” Today

Date: June 24, 2022

Origins: Seattle, Washington

Genre: Post-Hardcore

Seattle post-hardcore kings, Emery have just released their latest album, Rub Some Dirt on It on all streaming platforms. I have to admit, this is one you can not miss especially if you are a die hard. This record feels like a tribute to their fan base that grew up with their music. Their career goes back twenty years and Rub Some Dirt on It reflects every aspect of that.

You Stole God From Me,” “Concussion” and “Enemy” take you down memory lane. When you hear these tracks, you are reminded why Emery was and always will be top tier in the scene. It’s a heavy dose of adrenaline going through your veins at once.

The pace of the record calms down a bit with “Said Enough” and “Daniel, I’m Not Going to Make It. Go Ahead Without Me,” which I absolutely appreciated. The first part of the album pumps you up, the middle section gives you a break from headbanging before the finale.

Stranger” is a beautiful piece and one of my favorite songs off of Rub Some Dirt on It. My admiration for the track is the various instruments involved before it transitions into “Lovely Lady.” “Lovely Lady” will put a smile on your face because it closes with this mature, jazz-like tune that includes an introduction of the band by Toby Morrell. I am extremely excited to know what you guys think on the new album so please drop a comment below. Catch Emery at Labeled Fest with Norma Jean and Aaron Gillespie.

Emery is Toby Morrell [vocals, guitar], Devin Shelton [vocals, bass], Josh Head [vocals, keys, synths], Matt Carter [guitar], and Dave Powell [drums].
