Photos / Review: The Neighbourhood Wipes Out Portland, Oregon

Who: The Neighbourhood

Where: Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon

When: April 11, 2018

Before they play music festivals this summer, and embark on their official summer headlining tour, The Neighbourhood brings a shorter run of shows titled “The Tour” to a sold-out Crystal Ballroom in Portland.

Fans packed the venue and arrived so early the line nearly wrapped around the entire building and overlapped with the entrance. The Neighbourhood did not disappoint the crowd, and gave it everything they had through their 17 song set. Frontman Jesse Rutherford delivers a performance and conducts his stage presence expertly. Rutherford flawlessly twirls and sways along the stage, standing at the edge and engaging with his audience front row, making the entire ballroom erupt in excited screams with his many key changes and signature screams, and an outstanding live voice. Backed by the strong instrumentalists that make up the rest of the band, and the lighting that surrounded the stage, it was a show that had the entire audience dancing and singing with their phones in the air.

The Neighbourhood’s set was heavily focused on their most recent work. For Portland, the band opened with an introduction that lead into “Dust”, and closed with their single “Scary Love.” The only songs performed off of their first album were “Afraid,” and of course the song they are most known for: “Sweater Weather.” Fans however were treated to a song that hasn’t been on the setlist for some time. Rutherford partway through the show asked the audience if anyone had been with the band since day one, and after the crowd erupted in screams began performing “Wires,” a song off of their 2012 EP I’m Sorry
