Twenty year-old Nessa Barrett has certainly come a long way in both her life and career as a musician. She has endured some incredibly difficult, life-changing experiences — which in turn, has gifted us relatable music that serves as a backbone for those facing grueling times. Since getting discovered via TikTok in 2019, Nessa has released an EP (Pretty Poison, 2021) and debut studio album (Young Forever, 2022). She recently wrapped her 4 week long Young Forever Tour at The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, after impressively adding two additional shows due to high demand – collectively selling out over 6,000 seats across all three shows.
Nessa emerged onstage to her 2022 single, “Madhouse,” wearing a stunning full lace jumpsuit with throwback platforms and shimmering holographic hair accents. With a beaming smile, she was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of fans. The entire front row waved white roses which they had received from a VIP meet and greet with Nessa before the show. Many fans had been to both previous Los Angeles shows at The Fonda Theatre and were over the moon to see her perform a third time.
Nessa’s seamlessly soothing vocal performance flowed in sync with her effortless stage presence. She graced the stage from end to end, maintaining audience inclusivity from the barricade all the way to the back corners and upper balconies of the venue. Most of the setlist contained songs from Young Forever, with one from her Pretty Poison EP and two covers from Bad Religion and Culture Club. The balance between tracks was just right — bouncing around from higher energy beats then winding down with softer, stripped down renditions like “Decay” and “Lovebomb.”
With such immense support from her fans, it’s no wonder how Nessa has grown so much in the recent years. We had an absolute blast watching Nessa glow after a successful run of her first studio album tour. European fans can catch Nessa at a few shows this May, where she will be playing in London, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Paris. In the meantime, keep up with Nessa via her TikTok, Instagram and Twitter — and listen to her music across all major streaming platforms.
