Motionless in White goes “Beyond the Barricade” at Chain Reaction

Motionless in White (MIW) played a sold out-show on Saturday at the Chain Reaction in Anaheim.  The show was part of their “Beyond the Barricade Tour” that saw support from: For Today, New Year’s Day and Ice Nine Kills.

The band could have played larger venues, but decided to play venues that had no barricades (hence the tour name), and more of an intimate setting to give back to their faithful fans.

The band stormed the stage around 9:30 p.m., to much crowd approval.  Their entire set was nothing short of outstanding.  They played songs spanning all three of their albums, and fans knew words to every one.

MIW played many songs off their latest album, “Reincarnate,” including: “Death March,” “Puppets 3 (The Grand Finale)” and “Unstoppable.”

They even fit in their cover song of Rammstein’s song, “Du Hast,” into their 17-song, 90-minute set.

Three of their songs felt like more of spelling games, since they included calling out single letters like “America” and “drugs,” in their songs.  Fans did spell them correctly.  It just goes to show you that fans can spell too, as long as they’re in hit songs.  You go, audience.

During their set, lead singer Chris Motionless talked to the crowd and mentioned that the last time the band played the venue, there were only 20-30 fans, and now they sold out the venue, not one, but two nights in a row.

That show was more than three years ago, where Tides of Man, Motionless in White, and Asking Alexandria supported A Static Lullaby (out of all bands), who headlined.

For Today seemed like an unusual support band for this tour, but showed that they should be there.  They played like they could have headlined.  They played eight songs, during which, they had a fog machine pump into the already humid room.

Led by Mattie Montgomery, the band prevailed by asking for a lot of crowd participation, with stage dives and sing-alongs to their tunes.

Much like MIW, For Today has not played the venue in quite some time.  They ended their set with “Fearless.”

The band closest to their hometown of Chino Hills, New Years Day, played a surprisingly good set.  Many fans knew their songs and they rocked the stage with breakdowns and had fans on edge for what was about to arrive.

They even brought out Chris Motionless of MIW to partake in a song he recorded with them, “Angel Eyes.”  The fans knew it was coming, but still oozed excitement when he came out.  The band finalized their set with their biggest song to date, “Defame Me.”

The band added to the evening by meeting patient fans after the show at their merch table.

Ice Nine Kills opened the tour, playing five songs, four of which came off their latest album, “The Predator Becomes the Prey.”  These guys set the mood for the evening, even having fans take out lighters and phones to light up the venue before one of their songs to create a deeper connection with them.

The band also announced they would return the venue in May to headline, with support from Get Scared, Upon this Dawning, Chasing Safety and Brightwell.

Four bands collided into Anaheim on Saturday night, wanting to create something momentous for themselves and fans alike.  They all succeeded by putting on unforgettable performances with an exciting array of showmanship and opportunities to advance.
