Lea McNamara, aka L E A, just released her sophomore EP Happy Never Ending on 2/14. The New Jersey-born, LA-based artist shifts direction with her latest release. Previously her body of work, including her 2021 debut EP Jersey Boy, leaned more towards the pop side. Now she is taking the plunge into pop-punk which started at the end of 2021 with her single “Lollipop”.

L E A had plenty of help on the EP enlisting guest vocalists including Sleep With Sirens’ Kellie Quinn on “Happy Never Ending”, New Orleans pop-punk artist Bemo Rouge on “FTS”, The Wonder Years guitarist Casey Cavalier on “F U LOL” and “I Guess I Like You Anyway”, as well as Chase Coy. L E A co-wrote all the songs on the EP along with William Michael Grubbs, Chase Coy, Brendon Mitchell Wells, and Kellie Quinn.

L E A comes out blazing with the EP’s first song “F U LOL”. It is evident in the first few seconds that this is a new L E A. Stripped away is her old pop facade, replaced with a new self, full of attitude and up-tempo melodies. “FTS” is about her new direction. She says, “This song is about knowing you’re about to break into the scene as an alternative artist, getting ready to prove to people who told you you wouldn’t make it while struggling financially and mentally to balance it all alone.”

L E A shares, “’Happy Never’ Ending is the perfect finale of my sophomore EP. This project dives head first into the pop-punk genre and explores themes like financial trouble and fear of not making it as an independent artist (FTS), realizing and recognizing my true feelings (F U LOL/I Guess I Like You Anyway), and the past and present experiences of a never-ending situationship (Like Yesterday/Happy Never Ending).”

Happy Never Ending validates that L E A made the right decision in changing her musical focus. Pop-punk seems to be more of a fit than her debut EP. Hopefully, she continues in this direction.
