Joywave embarked on their Express Wash Tour this Spring, where they hit all the states they passed over on their previous tours this album cycle. And one of those stops was in Carrboro, North Carolina! Both old fans and new fans were excited to see what Joywave had in store for them.

The show started off strong with the energetic Elliot Lee! The audience bopped along to their music, immediately getting into the groove. Their solo act really resonated with the crowd, when Elliot Lee explained that, as their music was made out of loneliness, it only made sense to have that represented by being the only one on stage. People especially loved their rejected songs medley, getting to hear lots of different styles in each snippet was a treat! But their final song, “Pink (Freak)” was the biggest hit with everyone. Bathed in pink lights, Elliot Lee finished off their set strong!

It was time for the second opener, Dizzy, to hit the stage! The band’s opening song, “Barking Dog“, set a good, chill vibe for the rest of their set. They had several fans in the crowd, with people singing along to every word! The lead singer, Katie Munshaw, said that their upcoming album is releasing this August, and they played their latest release “Open Up Wide“, which fans resonated with the message behind the song about being angry at everything. They closed out their set with “Birthmark“, and it left everyone in the venue that night excited to hear more of them in the future!

It was now time for what everyone’s been waiting for, the lights dimmed and Joywave came out onstage! Starting off strong with “Every Window Is a Mirror“, the fans in the crowd sang and danced along to the song, and the energy in the room was high! Playing songs from all their album cycles, there was something there for both old fans and new. And speaking of old fans, they had last played this exact venue 5 years prior, and there were even several fans there that were present at that show!

Playing “Ugly Ending” from lead singer Daniel Armbruster’s side project Best Frenz, he went on to announce that a brand new single was coming out that night from the band, and the audience cheered in excitement! At the end of their set, they hit everyone hard with their encore of “Tongues“, “Dangerous“, and not one, but two performances of their hit “Destruction“! The crowd went absolutely crazy when Daniel pulled their onstage lever down to herald in the start of the song, jumping all over the place.
