Concert Crap: How have you guys progressed from Population Control, to Eternal Misery, to Altars of Impurity?
No Zodiac: Throughout all three albums, we have matured over all. The way we write is different each time, the influences for the music are different and just the overall process of making an album is different. You learn from the things you didn’t like about the previous one and alter that on the next one.
CC: You’ve played an intimate show in Northern California with World of Pain and Easy Money, just to name a few. How is it different now playing larger venues with Oceano?
NZ: We will always a soft spot for playing smaller hardcore shows because of the intimacy and sort of diy feel you get from playing something like that. The energy you get from playing a small room with 50 kids wilding out is definitely something of itself. The shows with Oceano are definitely some of the biggest shows we have played in the states. The different crowd that this tour has drawn is a little different for us and took a while to get used to, but it’s absolutely amazing and we’re super stoked to be a part of this tour.
CC: What can new fans just discovering you guys on the Revelation tour (and future tours) expect?
NZ: New fans discovering No Zodiac can expect us to keep bringing the same aggression that we have always brought and to see us continue to mature and grow, while we keep putting out the heaviest music we can.
CC: How well do you think that modern hardcore music has changed over time? Would you say it’s about the same?
NZ: The era of Hardcore that we all grew up in was extremely violent and in your face. The bands had something to say and if you didn’t like, you either dealt with it or did something about it. The whole safe space, internet era of hardcore has really watered things down and in my opinion has taken away some of the raw aggression, which is what drew us to it in the first place. Hardcore was not meant for everyone. The music itself has changed in certain ways, taking different aspects of hardcore from different eras and such but it is all derived from the same things so in a way it has also stayed the same.
CC: What does the future have in store for No Zodiac?
NZ: No Zodiac will be hitting it harder than ever in the next coming years.
CC: Anything else you’d like to say to fans, or anyone reading this interview?
NZ: No Zodiac would like to say thank you to everyone that has came out to this tour and checked us out even if they haven’t heard of us before, and to anyone that has supported the band in anyway. NZ CLIQUE.
