Interview: Getting to know Different Light

Concert Crap: Can you talk about a brief history of the band?

Trevor Tabone: Different Light were formed in Malta in 1995 and released All About Yourself in 1996 and A Kind of Consolation (EP) in 1999. I moved to Prague in 2000, reformed the band who then released ‘Icons that Weep’ in 2009, Il Suono della Luce in 2014 and The Burden of Paradise in 2016.

CC: What does your band name mean?

TT: It obviously comes from the expression ‘to see things in a Different Light’ and was thought up by the original guitarist (Mark Agius Cesareo) when we were drinking in a bar back in Malta.

CC: Who are some of your musical inspirations?

TT: Supertramp, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Rush, Camel, Marillion, Spocks Beard and a host of others which are too many to mention!

CC: Who would you like to tour with realistically and un realistically?

TT: Realistically, I’d love to tour with Haken, as I love their music and would love to watch them play every night! Unrealistically, a reformed Genesis or Supertramp.

CC: What does the rest of 2017 have in store for you guys?

TT: We’re in the process of arranging our newly written album which we hope to start recording later in the year. We’re also rehearsing to play a few gigs in summer in the Czech Republic, and hopefully overseas too.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans or anyone that may be reading this interview at all?

TT: Following the fantastic reaction to our last album The Burden of Paradise, I’d like to say that our new album is going to be even better than it! I’d bet my house on it too. Hopefully you can catch us live somewhere, dates will be posted on our site and band pages.
