Interview: Getting to know Alex Di Leo

Concert Crap: Who is Alex Di Leo?

Alex Di Leo: I’m an Alternative/Pop singer-songwriter from Fort Lauderdale.

I received my first guitar from my grandma for my 10th birthday and started taking lessons a year later. It wasn’t until I was 13, when I won my first middle school talent show that I really felt the urge to discover what I could do with music. Throughout middle school and high school I put together a couple different bands. They were more on the hard rock side, which is bizarre. Looking back, since bands like The Fray, Coldplay, and The Killers were my main influences. Ever since then it’s been what I constantly think about and work on throughout my days.

I released my first EP So We Go in November of 2016, which you can find everywhere online.

CC: Why did you decide to put out your own cover of The Chainsmokers song “Paris”?

ADL: I decided to cover “Paris” because when I first heard it the vibe was great. I looked up the lyric video and at beginning it had their (The Chainsmokers) perception of what Paris meant to them which was ”A sentimental yearning for a reality that isn’t genuine”.

Seeing that made me like the song even more. I thought I could do it in my own unique way.

CC: What has been the reception to that cover?

ADL: I think the reception from fans has been great. They like that it has a different vibe than the original.

CC: You only have a few dates coming up. Are you working on adding more anytime soon?

ADL: There are only a few upcoming dates but my team and I are currently working on a schedule around the months of May and June for shows outside South Florida. I’m really looking forward to hitting the road soon. I just found out I will also be playing the Florida Music Festival in Orlando on April 22.

CC: Who would you love to play a show or tour with in the future and why?

ADL: I’ve developed many inspirations over the years, but Coldplay has always been my biggest influence. I saw them live a few years ago at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, and no joke, I had goosebumps from the minute they started the show, to when they walked off stage. It was such an incredible show! I can’t imagine being on tour or playing a show with them. But one day. I can still dream.

CC: What do you have in store for the rest of 2017?

ADL: I’m really looking forward to what 2017 has in store. I’m excited to be a part of the SunFest line up this year, opening for Kaleo, The X Ambassadors and The Naked and Famous. This is gonna be a great time! Plus, playing the FL Music Festival for the first time in Orlando. I will also be in LA for a few songwriting sessions, and to set up future shows in CA. Stay tuned for announcements. There will be future shows with Emily Kopp and Jet Black Alley Cat from Nashville, with Glass House Point from Tampa and a few shows with Sunghosts and Yardij from Miami.

Lastly, I’m currently working on putting together a couple of singles that’ll fall into a four song EP. Looking to get the first single out mid April / early May. 2017 will be even busier than 2016. That’s for sure.

CC: Why should people care about Alex Di Leo?

ADL: I create music to hopefully inspire others to just live in the moment, and have a positive outlook on life.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to tell your fans or anyone else reading this interview right now?

ADL: If you like to sing along to positive upbeat songs, I would recommend taking a listen to my EP So We Go. I’d love to know all your thoughts.
