Grayscale Advances to a New Level with “Not Afraid To Die”

Grayscale has released their new single, “Not Afraid To Die“, which is their first new music since 2021. The Philadelphia alt rock / pop punk band comprised of Collin Walsh (vocals), Andrew Kyne (guitar), Dallas Molster (guitar), and Nick Veno (drums) burst onto the scene in 2015 with their Change EP. This was followed by three studio albums Adornment (2017), Nella Vita (2019) and Umbra (2021) released via Fearless Records. The new single is the band’s first independent release.

“Not Afraid To Die” explores the experience of being raised and living in the band’s hometown of Philadelphia. It’s filled with memories of fear, dysfunctional family life, and the hypocrisy of religious practitioners. “It’s a song about mine and my band mates’ upbringing in the northeast. It’s sort of a celebration of our ruggedness and ridiculousness, I suppose,” says Collin Walsh, the band’s lead vocalist.

Grayscale’s debut album Adornment was named by Alternative Press as one the best pop punk albums of 2017. However, with each subsequent release the band has evolved more toward alt rock adding layers and complexity to their sound. “Not Afraid To Die” combines their musical evolution with more lyrical depth.

We have been writing the most authentic music to us, from a storytelling and sonic perspective. We wanted this song to sound like a band playing together in a room. We’ve always been a rock band at our core and we wanted to capture the purest form of that.”

“Not Afraid To Die” is probably Greyscale’s best work to date. Fans can listen to the song here.
