This is not a track about Covid-19.
Or any other vaccine for that matter.
In fact, at its core, Stephen Jaymes‘ “Virus Vaccine” is about people. About you and me and the human condition and about, as Jaymes says, thinking we know what’s best for us and “almost always being wrong about it.”
In other words, it’s about being human.
“I’ll be getting stronger, yes I’ll be getting clean, and I’m gonna make this a fixable machine,” declares Stephen Jaymes in his newest single VIRUS VACCINE. Coming straight on the heels of two previous drops, the celebrated tracks ‘Chief Inspector’ (“Intoxicating” ~Independent Artist Buzz) and ‘Tokyo’ (“Beautiful” ~Independent Spirits), VIRUS VACCINE lands with the humorous take on the idea of obtaining emotional immunity by exposing yourself to something bad. “The super-determined narrator of the song is convinced that suffering through his psychological torture is going to grant him immunity to the things that torture him.
For a few years, we were all so immersed in the ideas of medical immunity and vaccines, and in this song I explore how wrong it can go when you misapply those concepts to your personal life. We all believe that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but really most of the time we can’t tell the difference. From a distance, the idea of curing yourself in a way that only makes things worse is inherently comical. As the song came together, it became really clear to me that, just like with so many comedies, it was funnier the more the singer was genuinely committed to his dumb idea.”
