Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA drew a huge crowd Friday night at the Hollywood Palladium for their show supporting Sabaton. The line wrapped around the block shortly after doors opened with fans of all ages. Los Angeles was the sixth stop in on The Tour To End All Tours, with many to follow.

The crowd exploded the moment EPICA took the stage — kids on parents’ shoulders, drinks and cell phones waving in the air. Vocalist Simone Simons delivered a glorious performance alongside her bandmates: Mark Jansen (Guitar), Isaac Delahaye (Guitar), Ariën Van Weesenbeek (Drums), Coen Janssen (Keyboard) and Rob van der Loo (Bass guitar). The well-balanced setlist consisted of songs from Omega, The Phantom Agony, The Quantum Enigma and other albums.

The originality of EPICA’s sound is unmatched — Layers of classical, death metal and symphonics can be distinguished individually, though it also impressively blends together. Simons’ opera-like vocals laced seamlessly with the heavy, gothic instrumentals of the band. The live experience is nothing short of being immersed in a climactic scene of a high intensity movie. Closing your eyes easily transports you to a cinematic experience that feels like reality.

EPICA’s chemistry only amplifies the live performance even more. There is an obvious and strong sense of camaraderie between each of the members. The night was filled with headbanging, laughter, crowd interaction and everything in between. Every moment of the show oozed authenticity and unitedness. Seeing the band rock out while loving every moment together truly had the crowd as equally as excited to be a part of the show. We encourage you to check out EPICA’s unique show as they continue through North America and Canada. The tour will wrap up in New York City at the end of October.
