Mayhem Festival 2014 review featuring Avenged Sevenfold and Korn

San Bernardino and the San Manuel Amphitheater once again hosted the first stop of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival.

The 2014 tour started on Saturday under the 95+ degree sun. Fans did not let the weather hurt the good time they were going to have with the heavy metal lineup.

Avenged Sevenfold headlined the main stage with Trivium, Asking Alexandria and Korn playing before.

From the main stage, Korn was the best band. They played many of their hits with some newer ones sprinkled in. Fans were very audible for the hits for the entirety of many.

The build up of songs into the powerful breakdowns set off everyone in attendance and erupted fires on the lawn. Korn has already achieved and surpassed legends of metal.

From the side stages, Suicide Silence played one of the best sets of the day. Everyone was excited to hear recently deceased Mitch Lucker’s replacement on vocals, Hernan “Eddie” Hermida, also lead singer of All Shall Perish.

It was scary how Hermida sounded exactly like Lucker on the screaming and growling vocals and took over the band with great poise.

This was the band’s hometown show, only a few minutes from their actual hometown of Riverside, California.

The set also showed fans what they could do with their bodies as many crowd surfed to the front numerous times.

Fans were ecstatic before, during and after the band’s set.

Cannibal Corpse rounded out the Coldcock Whiskey sidestage, which was in the middle of of the three side stages. Suicide Silence, Miss May I, Mushroomhead, Texas Hippie Coalition and King 810 also played the stage.

Facing the stage, to the left, was the Victory Records stage which featured: Erimha, Islander, Wretched and Ill Nino.

Adjacent to that stage was the Sumerian Stage which featured: Body Count featuring Ice-T, Darkest Hour, Upon a Burning Body and Veil of Maya.

This was the largest attended Mayhem Festival show ever. The stop was nearly double from the first show of the 2013 Mayhem Festival, also in San Bernardino.

The show also had the opportunity of first announcing and promoting Slipknot‘s Knotfest which will come to the venue in October. Fans were lucky enough to purchase Saturday and Sunday passes to the event for a total of $30 together.
