Who doesn’t love Halloween? Some of us just like it a little more than others. Take Nancy Nightmare and the Wizard for example, an alternative horror pop/rock duo from Los Angeles. The duo covers a lot of songs, putting their own unique spin on it, which they upload to YouTube. They’ve also released a 3-song EP on their album that you can download and enjoy for free.

Concert Crap: What made you decide to get this all started?

Nancy:  The Wizard and I have been writing music together for a while. We are both big Horror and Sci-fi fans, but we never really set out to specifically write music with those themes. One night we happened to sit down and write a song called “Dead Boyfriend” about my boyfriend being killed at the drive-in and coming back as a zombie. It was right before Halloween, so we decided to make a video of the song for our friends and wear our Halloween costumes in the video. We had fun doing it and people seemed to enjoy it. Pretty soon we were writing songs about vampires and possessed dolls. That’s how Nancy Nightmare and the Wizard was born!

Wizard:  It was really cool to see people get into “Dead Boyfriend.” I believe we released a second song right before Halloween 2015 called “Werewolf Love.” We were having so much fun that we decided to write a bunch of songs shortly after.

CC: Where do you hope to see this go in the future – short term and long term?

N:  Well, short-term we are working on our first album. Ultimately we’d love to perform these songs live! I’d love to play parties, horror conventions- anywhere people want to hear us.  Even though the songs are fun, we take songwriting very seriously. I love sharing our music with people and want to do that any way I can!

W:  Short term, finish the album. Once the album is done, we plan to get out and play  around LA. Long term we want to continue to expand our fanbase and further develop our sound as a band.

CC: You’ve already released a 3-song EP and are working on your album right now. When can we expect to see the album release? What can we look forward to hearing on it?

N:  We are shooting for an early-September release. We have a good mixture of up-tempo rock, like the songs on our 3-song EP, and a few songs that are more pop. We also have a couple of songs that are not specifically horror-themed, but are still dark and macabre.

W: Like Nancy said, early September. It’s a perfect time. We’ll all be looking forward to fall time and of course our favorite holiday Halloween!

CC: What’s on your playlist right now?

N:  I’ve been really into collecting vinyl recently, so that’s been fun to learn about. I’m going back and buying all of my favorite old music on that format. I’ve been listening to a lot of The Cure, The Smiths and Black Sabbath. For newer artists, I’ve been listening to the newest Ryan Adams album a lot. I also can’t get the new Paramore song out of my head! So catchy and I love her voice.

W: Some bands I am listening to now are: Nirvana, Blink 182, The Cure, AFI, Radiohead, Waterparks, and Motionless in White. Too many to list really. I love everything from Alternative, Punk, Metal, Goth, Pop and Hip Hop. I too have begun collecting vinyl like Nancy. The sound of a record is pretty amazing and the art work is fun to check out. Most importantly, I want to continue to support some of our favorite shops in town –  CD Traders and Amoeba Music.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to add to this interview?

N:  I just want to thank everyone for the response to our music! This is absolutely the most fun I’ve ever had writing and performing. The messages and comments we have received have driven me to keep going.

W: A big thank you to everyone who has been supporting us!
