All That Remains Reissuing The Fall of Ideals on Vinyl

All That Remains to reissue Fall of Ideals

All That Remains are celebrating the 15th anniversary of their 2006 The Fall of Ideals album with a vinyl reissue on November 12. The band will also be launching a Spring tour starting in March 2022 in addition to producing a documentary. Limited edition color vinyl copies of the album are also available for preorder on the band’s website.

There have been plenty of bands over the years like Metallica that have shifted their musical style. The Fall of Ideals saw All That Remains turn from a death metal sound to metalcore.  This was the band’s first album to chart on the Billboard music charts. It produced a variety of enduring favorites, including “This Calling,” which was featured in the soundtracks to Saw III and Masters of Horror II, as well as two singles “The Air That I Breathe” and “Not Alone.” The album also included “Six,” which appeared in Guitar Hero II.

The Fall of Ideals featured Phil Labonte (vocals), the late Oli Herbert (lead guitar), Mike Martin (rhythm guitar), Jeanne Sagan (bass), and Shannon Lucas (drums). Adam Dutkiewicz from Killswitch Engage produced the album which was engineered by Soilwork’s Peter Wichers.  The album ended up selling more than 450,00 copies.

“We’re so thankful to everyone who has kept this disc in their hearts for the past 15 years,” says Labonte. “We are proud to celebrate the reissue and can’t wait to tell you about all the other cool things we have in store.”

The album was well received by music critics. Pop Matters hailed, “All That Remains has made the kind of stylistic leap that most bands can only wish they could pull off…The Fall of Ideals [is] invigorating from start to finish and could very well be the metalcore album of the year.” Blabbermouth praised, “All That Remains effortlessly blends thrashy twin guitar fireworks and Phil Labonte’s raging vocals with soaring clean vocals and overall tunefulness…There is no denying that those guys play their asses off here and the result is immensely gratifying.” Lambgoat simply declared, “The entire band executes the songs perfectly,” adding that “the production…is full and crisp.”

All That Remains was not on my radar 15 years ago when The Fall of Ideals was released. I heard them for the first time in 2019 when I was covering their Mobile, Al concert which also included Lacuna Coil. This was my first introduction to melodic metalcore. Metal and hardcore music never interested me because it always sounded monotonous to me. However, All That Remains’ metalcore style piqued my interest with Labonte’s clean and screaming vocals creating a dynamic that kept my attention. Since 2019, I have gone on to discover other metalcore bands such as August Burns Red, We Came As Romans, Ice Nine Kills, Blessthfall, and many others.

I grew up listening to vinyl but eventually transitioned to cds and then streaming like many others. There is nothing like vinyl albums with their aesthetic album covers and the occasional pop and skip you hear after listening to them over and over. The vinyl industry has been making a big comeback in recent years with more and more musical acts releasing new music and re-issuing older material that was never distributed in vinyl. It seems fitting that All That Remains would choose The Fall of Ideals to release in this format.

The reissue of the album is set for November 12 and available for pre-order.  In addition to the wide release, the band has exclusive colored vinyl variants with deluxe packaging available only at the band’s webstore.
