Post-hardcore veterans Alexisonfire stopped in Los Angeles last week on the tail end of their North American tour and surely did not disappoint. Hosted by the Hollywood Palladium, the show was full of nostalgia as they graced us with songs from over two decades ago. With all of our favorites in tow, the band played tracks from Old Crows / Young Cardinals, Crisis, Otherness, Watch Out!, and Dog’s Blood. Attention first rose earlier this year, when they announced their studio album, Otherness, which was the band’s first release in thirteen years.

Some may recognize Alexisonfire’s Dallas Green from his cult-like following side project: City and Colour. The band credited Green for his mastermind songwriting skills that contributed to the first single, “Sweet Dreams of Otherness” as well as album in its entirety: “This song was largely Dallas’s brain child, but over the course of writing this record, it became more of a mission statement for the band,” he says. “It’s about performance and embracing a newfound confidence in a state of peculiarity.”

The show itself was full of day-one fans, many who have been fans of the band for decades. The crowd proudly displayed a handful of throwback tour t-shirts from the early and mid 2000s. Overall, the atmosphere of the show felt like we were united in a strange, yet thrilling time warp. Lead vocalist George Petitt absolutely ripped across the stage with his bandmates shredding by his side. The energy felt just as it did years ago as the audience screamed every word. Alexisonfire wrapped up their tour a few days after concluding with a close-out show at House of Blues Anaheim and a festival appearance at Aftershock.
