Album Review: Them Evils “Rollin’ Stoned and Livin’ Free” EP

Them Evils - "Rollin' Stone and Livin' Free" EP

There have been a lot of talented young rock bands inspired by the greats of the 70s who are bringing rock back to its heyday. Them Evils is one of those talented bands. Their six-track EP Rollin’ Stoned and Livin’ Free – out May 4 – is dirty stoner’s rock at its finest. There’s a very clear AC/DC influence in their music that mixes with that unique southern California sound. “Practice What You Preach” is a really interesting track. It has an edge to it, as does the entire album. Vocalist Jordan Griffin has a gritty voice that fits the music perfectly. “She Got Nothin’” has an impressive intro, as it starts quietly before smacking you in the face with some nefariously good guitar. “Got Me Rockin’” was previously released as a single and is the standout track on this album.

Them Evils deliver standout music track after track. EPs with only one guitar tend to fall flat, but that is not a problem with this release at all, which was really surprising. The guitar solos are impressive and fun. The drums on every track are merciless, as is the bass. The backing vocals are striking and make the lead vocals sound even better. This album sounds very big; it would feel more at home in a large venue than it would at your favorite local club. It is music that begs to be played as loud as you can. The choruses in every song are addictive and the guitar solos will have you banging your head as hard as you can to every beat. Rollin’ Stoned and Livin’ Free is an excellent release from a band that is no doubt going to explode onto the scene very soon.
