Alternative rock band Stateside is the newest thing to come out of Australia. The band recently released a new EP called Naive. The EP is six songs and mixes different styles of music together to create a unique sound for Stateside.
The opening track has a pop punk feel to it and is called “Livingstone Road”. The song starts out sounding eerie and then this really catchy guitar line jumps in. Lines like “While the fire was burning in the depths of the sea, I stayed under water and adapted to the heat” make the song seem like it’s about adapting to bad situations. Track two is a song called “This is War”, it has a rock feel to it than the previous song. I think this song shows off Erin Reus’ vocals the best, her voice fits in with the guitars and drums while sticking out enough to show how powerful of a singer she is.
“The Way We Were” is the second to last track on the EP and it’s also the one that sounds the most different. It adds in electronic elements which automatically remind me of the band PVRIS. The final track is called “Hard to Love”. This track shows that Stateside are versatile and capable of slowing the music down.
After listening to this band, I feel like this is just the beginning for them and that they have a lot of potential.
