There is nothing better than a good pop punk album; you can turn it on and jam out and sing along. Dozer TX is a pop-punk band from San Angelo, Texas, releasing their sophomore EP Centerpiece on Friday. The EP speaks on something that a lot of people have had to deal with or are dealing with, toxic relationships.
Fans of the band’s first EP, Self Sabotage, they will for sure enjoy the newest effort put forth by the Dozer TX guys. Centerpiece has the same core sound but is more evolved than the band’s previous work. The first song off the EP is called “Smoke Screen”. It’s a strong opener for the EP and gets you pumped for the rest of the album. It features the double vocals of Kevin Cale and Miles McMillan Jr. Lyrically, the line, “Don’t think I wanted to feel, how you made me feel today” stuck out to me. Going back to the toxic relationship theme of the album, this line sticks with it. I feel like that line is something that a lot of people can relate to.
The next track, “Fixated”, seems to deal with the themes of life and heartbreak. Right off the bat the song tells the story of how life happens and then bad things are thrown in. The line, “Life’s not a game you can win” pretty much sums up life. There’s always going to be things that happen but you get through and survive. Besides the lyrics in this song it features a really cool moment in the music around the two minute mark. The guitars pretty much drop out of the song and it’s just drums. The guitars and vocals come back in at full strength not too long after but that part was a nice surprise.
“Breathe Deep” sticks with the theme that has been heard so far on the album. Featuring lyrics like, “The pressures of everyday life are relentlessly surrounding me”, the song is highly relatable. Everyone goes through days where life is hard and there’s a lot of pressure to get through the day. If you’ve ever felt like that, you should check this song out. The final song on the album is called “Keep You For Myself” is acoustic. It shows off the vocals of Cale and McMillan Jr. really well because it is so broken down. This song talks about, as you may have guessed based off the song title, keeping someone for yourself because you think their so cool.
Dozer TX has made a super relatable EP that will appeal to a lot of people. They evolved their music from what they had previously made on Self Sabotage but still kept certain music elements on Centerpiece. If you are a fan of pop punk or good music check out this band!
