Who is Moscow Noir?

Moscow Noir - Promo

Concert Crap: Your debut self titled EP just came out week. How proud are you of this release?

Lesther Gutierrez: I’m very proud of it actually. Just being able to see something form out of ideas and thoughts that I really believed could come together is really amazing. You’re always hesitant at first, not knowing if what you’re doing is right or even makes sense, especially when trying to pull from different genres. But it felt right and I went with my gut. Moscow Noir is a sound that I always heard in my head and now hearing it come to life on speakers is truly special.

CC: What can those listening expect?

LG:  Listeners can expect an immersive journey of big, anthemic ideas to quiet contemplation, to sounds that will make you move. All guided by raw guitars, drums, and electronic soundscapes. It’s a bridge of electronica and rock with a noir accent.

CC: What is it like being a musician from Toronto, Canada?

LG: Well it’s pretty difficult to break out of Toronto and even make waves inside of Toronto. I find it’s easier to get support when you’re not from here. But lately Toronto is much more well known and easier for people to know where it is, thanks to a handful of really successful artists. Hopefully I can contribute to that in some way, at some point.

CC: Who are some of your favorite artists and musicians today?

LG: That’s such a difficult question to answer. There are so many. I listen to so many different genres.  At the moment I would say Radiohead, Caribou, Moderat, Dixon, Digweed, Interpol, Gus Gus, M83  to name a few.

CC: Besides music, what are some of your favorite hobbies?

LG: My background is in design, arts and animation. I really enjoy creating art pieces whether it’s a visual moving piece or a painting or designing set pieces for Moscow noir related projects. Anything art I’m always drawn too…as long as it allows me to shift my perspective, I’m game.

CC: Describe Moscow Noir in 5 words or less.

LG:  Noir escapist rock electronica

CC: Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans or anyone reading this interview?

LG: Listen for the details, there’s much more to the story.
