Concert Crap: Can you talk about a brief history of the band?
Twister (singer): We started around the turn of the millennium – kind of drum’n’ bass meets heavy guitars and experimental instrumentation/vocals. Since then we’ve been through a number of incarnations and different musical flavours – maybe 50 people have played in this band over the years – I’m the only original member – although Jay (drummer) and I go way back.
CC: What does your band name mean?
Jamie (drummer): We can’t even remember who came up with it, let alone what it means – it’s useful having a name so distinctive, when it comes to internet searches – people usually can’t remember it – although they can remember that they can’t remember it, if that makes any sense.
CC: Who are some of your musical inspirations?
A’Zedd (bass): An incredible range really in this band – from Squarepusher and Amon Amarth to The Beatles and Captain Beefheart – having talked to the guys about this in a way we’re influenced by almost everything we hear musically – either as a reaction against or an impulse towards.
CC: Who would you like to tour with realistically and un realistically?
Roger (guitarist): Realistically, we’d love to do a big tour with our homies Die Kur, Francesco Fonte Band and Drilling Spree. Unrealistically, Lady Gaga – no, seriously – I’d love to see what her fans made of her – and Ed Sheeran, just to make his ears bleed.
CC: What does the rest of 2016 have in store for you guys?
Vortex (keys): Loads actually – a lot of live stuff, including a show in France at an industrial festival in October. We’re releasing an EP Alchemical Metal in the same month – we’re very excited about that – it’s the first since this current lineup got together – we’ve just finished the recording and we’ll mixing it throughout September with Ays Kura – who’s just a bloody brilliant producer – he did the last Maxdmyz album, The Hate Plane. You can get all the details of our shows and stuff on our Facebook page – just search for Maxdmyz.
All questions answered by each member of Maxdmyz (Twister (singer), Jamie (drummer), A’Zedd (bass), Roger (guitarist), and Vortex (keys)).
