Two Door Cinema Club mentioned on Saturday during their show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles that this was their biggest headlining show ever in the United States. It was quite an honor to share this momentous occasion with the Irish quartet.
The band had just played the Fox Theater in Pomona the night before to a mere 2,000. Twenty-four hours removed, the band played to nearly triple that number only 35 miles away.
The cold LA night brought out many young fans of the headliners and the wonderful supporting lineup in St. Lucia and Capital Cities.
The feel of the entire night from the three bands was 80’s-esque sounding music. And none of it was bad at all.
Los Angeles band Capital Cities played before the headliners and everyone immediately stood on their feet for the indie pop band. They played a very good set with really catchy sounds and lyrics.
The band opened with their newer single “Kangaroo Court.”
Front man Sebu Simonian led the sold out audience to dance the “Capital Cities Shuffle,” which included moving to the left, the right and making a 360 degree turn. The audience loved it and went along with the dance and anything else the band asked of them.
The band even put their own spin on the classic disco song “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
When they played their final song and breakthrough single, “Safe and Sound,” the crowd sang along to every word and screamed at the top of their lungs. It was a great way to end their 45-minute set.
After a fifteen minute intermission, Two Door Cinema Club stormed the stage.
“Sleep Alone” was the band’s first song followed by “Undercover Martyn.” The band’s set jumped from both albums, “Tourist History” and “Beacon” and newer songs from their “Changing of the Seasons” EP.
Their live performance is really special because they sound exactly like they do on their albums. Not many bands can pull that off.
Even though the Irish lads’ songs are short, they are very sweet. The vocals are clear enough to understand and the background music is always addictive and easy to get into.
The atmosphere of the audience was electric throughout the band’s performance. The band never slowed down.
Among other songs the band played were: “Do You Want it All?” “Wake Up,” “Spring,” “I Can Talk” and “Something Good Can Work.”
Sixteen songs removed, the band exited the stage and returned not even two minutes later to the enthusiastic crowd and played three additional songs, one off each of their releases.
After the song “Someday,” “Cigarettes in the Theater” and fan favorite, “What you Know” proceeded with smoke machines shooting blasts into the sky. The band prevailed for the final show of the season at the Greek Theater.
Even though Two Door Cinema Club has only two albums and one recently released EP, they have already stamped their ticket to stardom here in the states. They are well on their way to future success.
