Interview: Thrash and Hardcore; Comeback genres of the year? ACHE speaks out

Ache - Promo

Concert Crap: Who was the biggest influence on your style of music?

Ryan Bland: We honestly don’t have a big influence as a whole band. When we got together we just all started coming up with ideas to try to see what direction we should go in musically. We all came from various backgrounds within NYHC & metal so every style idea was tried until we came up with our sound. The band Infest was a band we all listened to a lot when we started and even did a cover song by them at our early shows, so they would be the closest thing to a whole band influence but we sound nothing like Infest.

CC: Do you think Thrash still carries over well into current music? Hardcore and pop punk seems to be making a comeback.

RB: Thrash will make a huge comeback and make all other music genres look like shit. Hahahaha. I’m really not sure what’s currently popular. I’m not sure about thrash making a “comeback”. For me, thrash & hardcore never went away. That will always be a part of my current music. I always will seek that stuff out or listen to the classics.  If thrash is making some kind of a comeback I’m all about that.

CC: What do you find to be the most difficult thing about being a musician?

RB: For me it’s any down time. When you’re waiting for stuff to happen. You work and work your ass off on your music and your band and then you wait for things. Shows to happen, records to drop, fun times to be had but I am a patient boy; I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait! Function is the key in the waiting room.

CC: If you could tour with anyone, who would it be? You can repeat artists you have toured with in the past.

RB: La Armada, Candiria, Choking Victim, and Trap Them…We just recently played shows with all those bands and would love to tour with any of them. Those shows were incredible. We are talking with La Armada about doing some possible touring together in the Midwest in 2017.

CC: Besides touring, what else do you hope to accomplish in the upcoming year?

RB: Our album Fade Away is just being released but we have already started writing songs for the next record. I hope to have that record released in 2017.

CC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to fans or anyone else reading this?

RB: Yes!! At least one time while your listening to the ACHE album Fade Away, listen to it with the lights off. We play those songs all the time at band practice with the lights off, so hopefully you will feel the energy we try to bleed into it.
