The Kooks Bring the Nostalgia of 2006 to Los Angeles

Opening with their iconic track, “Seaside”, lead singer, Luke Pritchard, stepped solo on stage with an acoustic guitar bringing a time capsule of memories to the fans. From the first chord played, The Kooks set the tone of nostalgia throughout the Hollywood Palladium. Fans immediately started singing along with Pritchard. The energy in the room was unmatched as the rest of the band slowly started making their way onto the stage. The British indie-pop band announced to their fans that they would be playing the entirety of their 2006 debut album, Inside In/Inside Out. To say the crowd was excited, including myself, is an understatement. The band played the hits everyone hoped they would: “She Moves In Her Own Way”, “Ooh La”, “You Don’t Love me”, and “I Want You”. Sprinkled in throughout the set, The Kooks also performed later releases such as “Closer”, “… Junk of the Heart (Happy)”, and “Taking Pictures of You”. The set felt smooth and perfectly curated.

Lead singer, Pritchard put on an impressive performance as he danced all over the stage and maintained fan interaction throughout the entire show. He sang to the balcony and crouched down on monitors to get closer to those in the front row. He made sure fans from the front to back felt engaged. The stage presence was amazing and was a treat to witness. It was beautiful to be in the middle of the diverse crowd with new and older fans dancing and singing. The atmosphere was quite euphoric and brought pure joy out of everyone in the room.

As the night came to an end, the band walked off stage and after a few minutes of the crowd cheering and waiting for the inevitable encore, they returned to stage with thank you’s and much appreciation to their loyal Los Angeles supporters. They closed the night with their famous song, “Naïve”. Cellphones rose and the entire room recorded and sang their happy hearts away. The Kooks left Los Angeles celebrating their debut album even 18 years later.
