Tesseract performs at House of Blues in Downtown Disney

Tesseract, the progressive metal band from Britain, is in the midst of their “Polaris” North American tour and are playing alongside three great progressive metal bands: The Contortionist, Sky Harbor, and Erra.

The tour is in support of Tesseract’s third studio album titled Polaris and it continues throughout December.

On Nov. 21, they played at the House of Blues in Anaheim in Downtown Disney. The mixture of metal and Disney fans filled up the vicinity and one would say that it was an odd contrast of crowds at Disneyland that night.

Undoubtedly, the HOB’s intimate interior made this concert a real heavy hitter for the crowd. Almost everyone had a great view of the stage even though it was packed.

Most were blown away by The Contortionist’s performance, and those who never heard them before, loved them.

The prime highlight of the concert was Tesseract. Reunited with their first vocalist Dan Tompkins, the band played the longest set that night. It consisted of a well assembled variety of old and new songs from all three albums. Tompkins enthralled the crowd with his dramatic vocal artistry. The most apparent that night was the crowd being mesmerized and in sync with every tune they were playing. A mid size mosh pit took over the front, but it was not too brutal and not too mundane.

Towards the end, Tompkins announced that “Survival” was going to be their last song, but then returned playing one of their all-time best songs “Concealing Fate, Part 1: Acceptance”, and the crowd went wild.

Overall, this concert was incredible, performance wise, compared to last year’s “Altered State” North American Tour. With Tompkins back, Tesseract seems revived again.
