Story of the Year rocks Disneyland's doorstep

Story of the Year rocks the house with an unforgettable performance.

“Scream It Like You Mean It” is an annual tour that highlights bands and artists in the post-hardcore and metalcore scene and has been running since 2010. Last Friday the tour made a stop at the House of Blues in Anaheim.

The fourth year saw Story of the Year as the headliner with support from Like Moths to Flames, Hawthorne Heights, Set it Off, I am King and Sienna Skies.

This is a special tour to Story of the Year because they are touring for the 10th anniversary of their debut album “Page Avenue.” This was not only their first album but their most popular as well.

Story of the Year is one of my favorite bands and they are the first band I ever witnessed live when they played the 2004 KROQ Weenie Roast. Story of the Year played first and we arrived to the venue early to get near the front .

They put on an unforgettable performance that included a version of “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. They made to a strong impression on the crowd and it was definitely a special moment that I will always remember.

On Friday night, Story of the Year stormed the stage and the Anaheim crowd went wild. Each song they played was better than the last and most of the crowd, including myself, sang along to nearly every song. The band seemed to enjoy themselves while onstage because they interacted with the crowd frequently. They thanked the crowd many times for supporting the band all these years. They played every song off “Page Avenue” and hits from their other albums.

Another special moment for the band was when they played songs from their friends including: Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and The Used.

This was the first time I ever saw Story of the Year headline a show and hopefully it will not be the last.

I’ve seen Like Moths to Flames three other times this year and this was probably their most disappointing yet. Everyone seemed to be burnt out of the support and wanted Story of the Year already. They did not seem to do anything special and did not really seem into the show themselves.

Hawthorne Heights has been around for a very long time and there is a very good reason why. They keep making good music and put on great performances. The guys played all their hits and many new songs from their new album “Zero.” A surprisingly good set from the Ohio natives.

Set it Off really did set it off when it was their turn. They were the oddball band of the night because they are a lot more pop-punk but they delivered. The lead singer went berserk on stage and got the audience to into it by having them clap, sing and scream at the top of their lungs to show how excited they were for the live music. Good show, chaps. Very good show.

Set it Off kicked ass for a pop-punk band on a heavier rock tour.

I am King was probably the most disappointing band of the night. I am not a big fan of two singer bands and these guys were no exception. They had a screamer and a clean vocalist. There were way too many members in the band, at six, and the singers were just horrible. Neither of them really tried to engage the audience in the show either, which was another negative. Sorry, guys.

The first band on the bill was Sienna Skies. It was a very good performance from the five-piece metalcore band, even though they had only 20 minutes. They got the young crowd engaged and pumped up for the rest of the evening.
