San Diego, CA band The Innocent Bystanders recently released a song called “Highways” off their brand new EP Attractive Nuisance. The band plays pretty often in the San Diego area and has even played at Petco Park!
“Highways” starts off with a really heavy bass line and then a whole slew of different instruments jump in. The vocals kick in and lay on top of all the different instruments perfectly. Nothing is overpowered by another instrument, every sound fits together nicely. The band is known for combining ska, rock and soul together in their music. When your listening to “Highways” you can definitley hear all those different genres peak through.
As far as the meaning of the song, I’m not 100% sure but highways make me think of life. The singer talks about where she’s going to be in the future and where she was in the past. Based off that, I believe that this is about moving through life and all of the stages that a person goes through.
“Highways” by The Innocent Bystanders is a very chilled out song that combines elements of many different musical genres together. If you’re a fan of any of the genres that were mentioned above, I think you would really enjoy this song.
