Santana/Earth Wind & Fire Played The Classics To A Sold-Out Tampa show!

Venue: MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the FL State Fairgrounds

August 27^th, 2022: In traditional Florida format, the show was delayed about an hour due to severe thunderstorms and flooding. However, it eventually cleared up and at approximately 8:00 PM, Earth Wind & Fire took the stage. Immediately breaking out the classic “Shining Star”. The 11-piece band had the whole crowd going by also performing other classics such as “Celebrate”, “After the Long Has Gone”, “Fantasy”, “Boogie Wonderland”, and “September”.

Carlos Santana and company then hit the stage. Starting off with “Soul Sacrifice” followed by “Jin-go-lo-ba” and “Evil Ways”, the songs also featured some clips showcasing footage of Santana in the early days. Afterwards, the band went straight into the Fleetwood Mac classic cover “Black Magic Woman” that got the crowd going. It was a bit interesting to see but for majority of the show, Santana was mainly facing the side of the stage or facing his band behind him, though it did not alter his guitar playing performance one bit, as he still ripped through some soulful guitar solos throughout the show.

Santana and the rest of the band also played more classics such as “She’s Not There” “Joy”, “Right On Be Free” and one of their 90’s staple “Maria Maria”. Followed by a short break, the band came back for an encore of “Are You Read” which included a drum solo by Santana’s wife, Cindy Blackman Santana. This then led to the Rob Thomas/Santana collab hit “Smooth”. The show concluded with “Love, Peace, and Happiness”. This show concluded the tour and Santana and company went out with a bang!
