Rock The South 2021 Recap

Rock The South 2021

Rock the South 2021 took place on Aug 13 & 14 in Cullman, Alabama.  After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the music festival was back for the 9th time.  This year’s headliners included Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, and The Marshall Tucker Band.  Eighteen musical performers performed on a single stage over the two day festival.

The festival started in 2012 to celebrate the recovery of a devastating tornado that destroyed 867 and 94 businesses.  Kellie Pickler, Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi and Brent Cobb performed the first year before a crowd of 11,000 people.  The festival has grown throughout the years with artists like Little Big Town, Florida Georgia Line, Alan Jackson, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan taking the stage.

Over the years, Rock the South has given back over $639,000 back to community through organizations such as Cullman City Parks and Recreation, The Link of Cullman County and Cullman Caring for Kids. Rock the South has also hosted families and patients going through treatment at the event.

This year over 40,000 country music fans witnessed the music festival’s most diverse lineup. Artists included Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, The Marshall Tucker Band, Nelly, Ashley McBryde, Jordan Davis, Ingrid Andress, Flatland Cavalry, Laine Hardy, Drew Parker, DeeJay Silver, Trey Lewis, and Alex Hall.  Several safety measures were in place to protect fans including limiting capacity to 75%, expanding the perimeter by 30% to allow people to spread out, hand sanitizing stations, masks and extra staff to help with entrances.

Weather impacted the two-day event with storms rolling through the area.  However, with the exception of some intermittent delays, the performances went on as planned. Day One included performances by Bailey Zimmerman, Josh Kiser, Drew Parker, Lane Kardy, Breland, Nelly, Flatland Calvery, and Ashley McBryde.  The night closed with Luke Combs taking the stage.

The start time for Day Two was delayed a couple of hours while crews prepared the parking lot and venue in response to the previous day’s rain. Performers included Meghan Patrick, Murphy Elmore, Alex Hall, Trey Lewis, Ingrid Andress, and Jordan Davis.  The Marshall Tucker was a late addition to the festival replacing Lynyrd Skynrd who had to cancel due to a Covid case in the band. The festival was closed out by superstar Miranda Lambert.

After a year filled with cancelled concerts and music festivals, Rock The South was able to pull off this year’s event with a stellar lineup.  There was plenty of music, dancing fans, rain and mud.  But what would a music festival be without some mud.  Check out more about Rock The South below.
