Review: From Ashes To New - 'Quarantine Chronicles Vol. 2'

On August 13^th, From Ashes To New released their new EP, Quarantine Chronicles Vol. 2. This is a follow up to the first volume they released earlier this summer. This second volume opens up with “Light Up The Sky,” a new track with a theme of somebody getting the fate that they truly deserve. I love how Matt Brandyberry’s rap verses go well with the guitar riff. From Ashes To New recently released the music video for their cover of Paramore’s “Decode,” and you can watch it here. Even with Caitlin De Ville providing some impressive, the overall sound of this cover is heavier than the original but it still definitely works. I love Danny Case’s heavy vocals at the end of track. Their cover of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare” is perfectly done, and the band managed to get it to sound like the original song surprisingly well. Following up that song is the obviously rap-heavy cover, “Forget About Dre” by Dr. Dre and Eminem. This is a fast track that flows well and counters the heaviness of the previous song. Wrapping up the EP is “Finally See,” a song that was released a few years ago. This has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m glad to see it get released as more than just a single. I love the fast tempo of the song and my favorite line is hiding in the bridge: “I’m finished hiding these dying dreams so quietly.”

As this EP follows the same layout of Quarantine Chronicles Volume 1. (a new song, three covers, then a rereleased track), this gives me hope that From Ashes To New will soon release another quarantine covers EP leading up to their next full release. The band is currently on tour with P.O.D. and also have a few headlining dates coming up, so be sure to catch them live if you can.
