Review: Adptd Releases Debut EP, Bedroom Walls

Adptd releases new EP

Few new musical artists over the last year have caught my attention. Adptd, aka singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Josie Randle, is one of these artists. She just released her debut EP entitled Bedroom Walls on February 25th.

As I started listening to Bedroom Walls, I was totally blown away by Randle’s sound and vocals. Growing up she was influenced by rock genres such as pop-punk, emo, pop-rock, and hardcore music. This influence can be heard throughout the EP. Being that these are my favorite genres, it’s no wonder that the EP garnered my attention.

Scared” is the strongest and heaviest song on the EP.  Its emotional and powerful filled with questions and frustration which resorts to screams at points to express rage. Randle says “’Scared’ is a politically and racially centered song. It relates to me being an African American woman experiencing things firsthand and having to witness what other POC have to go through as well. It’s tiring and exhausting. The Chorus speaks exactly the feelings, the verses are situations, and the bridge asks why it’s happening where things should be.”

Coward”, the EP’s lead single, displays more of Randle’s sensitive side. Speaking about the song Randle says “Coward is such a heartfelt song. You’re bound to feel something. It’s an emotional contrast between expression and surrender to circumstance. The song expresses the waves between the emotion of a relationship and feelings that keep you there yet the pull of destabilization.”

Bedroom Walls is my favorite new release of 2022. Josie Randle has a great voice that is right up there with other female rockers like Avril Lavigne, Hayley Williams, and Lzzy Hale.  I almost overlooked this EP but am now glad I didn’t. Besides being a great album, it also taught me a little bit more of myself.
