Rebel Rock Rapidly Approaching – Day Three (9/25) Preview

Rebel Rock Day 3 Preview

Rebel Rock 2021 is quickly approaching.  In eight days more than 60 musical acts will take the stage at the inaugural festival set to take place on September 23 – 26, 2021 in sunny Orlando, Fl. The festival sponsored by Monster Energy, Deep Eddy’s Vodka, and Liquid Death Mountain Water and produced by Stage Left Entertainment  will be hosted by Sirius XM’s Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin.

The final Saturday schedule has been released. Eighteen bands are slated to perform on four stages starting in the early afternoon and rocking until late into the evening. One change has occurred to the original lineup, We Came As Romans has replaced Devildriver on the Saturday bill.

There are some great bands performing on Saturday but the three I’m most excited to see are August Burns Red, We Came As Romans, and Papa Roach.

August Burns Red

August Burns Red is currently in the middle of their Leveler:10th Anniversary Tour.  The metalcore band from Lancaster, PA, recently re-recorded all the tracks from the 2011 album for the Anniversary Edition.  The band’s lineup has not changed since 2011 and includes JB Brubaker (lead guitar), Brent Rambler (rhythm guitar), Matt Greiner (drums), Jake Luhrs (lead vocals), and Dustin Davidson (bass).   August Burns Red is known for melodic guitar riffs, odd time signatures and breakdowns.  On the current tour, the band has been playing all the songs from Leveler. I’m not sure if they have enough time in their set to perform the entire album, but I’m sure we will hear songs from the album.

We Came As Romans

Most people think of LA, New York, Nashville, Memphis, and New Orleans as the major US musical hotbeds.  However, Detroit is worthy to be included in this group with artists such as MadonnaEminemGlen FreyBig SeanThe White StripesKid RockI Prevail, and Greta Van Fleet all hailing from Detroit. We Came As Romans is another of these acts.  The band was formed in 2005 in Troy, MI, which is a suburb of Detroit, by current members Dave Stephens (lead vocals) and Joshua Moore (lead guitar).  The post-hardcore / metalcore band also includes Lou Cotton (rhythm guitar), Andy Glass (bass, backing vocals), and David Puckett (drums). Clean vocalist, Kyle Pavone, was added to the band in 2008, but tragically died of an accidental overdose in 2018.  This was a hard loss for the band who vowed no singer would stand in his place.  Instead of adding another band member, Stephens has taken over clean vocals, as well as continuing with unclean vocals. Having grown up two hours from Detroit, this is one of the bands I’m looking most forward to see perform.

Papa Roach

There have been plenty of songs with great guitar riffs over the years but there are few more iconic than “The Last Resort by Papa Roach. The California nu-metal band’s popularity soared in 2000 with the release of this #1 hit. They went on to score an additional 6 – #1 songs on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock chart including “Face Everything and Rise” and “Help.  Lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix, guitarist Jerry Horton, drummer Tony Palermo, and bassist Tobin Esperance will undoubtedly have the crowd rocking by the end of the night.
