PVRIS performed their first Orange County headlining show to date on Monday at the Observatory in Santa Ana with support from Lydia, CRUISR, and Beach Weather.
The date also featured an exclusive, intimate, opening acoustic act from the Los Angeles band, Wild.
The best part about this tour was that although PVRIS was the headliner, and the main reason many people attended, it was not just about them; every band on the bill brought something special to the table.
Take for instance Beach Weather, as they brought an interesting mix of indie, ’60s, and surf rock to the audience. Additionally, frontman Nick Santino was formerly a part of A Rocket to the Moon.
CRUISR kept the night going with both their wit and upbeat, indie rock music. They would take brief moments between songs to interact and tease the audience. These tactics definitely seemed to work in their favor as the crowd reacted in a positive manner.
Lydia was the last band to go on before PVRIS. Lydia by far had the most emotional songs of the night. The Arizona band kept the mood very melancholy with their mixture of slow songs and dim lighting.
PVRIS finally took the stage and did not disappoint. The band played an extensive set that was mainly comprised of songs from their debut album, White Noise. Each time the band played a different song, the “hand mirror” behind them would change to the corresponding graphic of the song that was about to be performed.
In the middle of their set they decided to slow things down. They temporarily became an acoustic duo. Both Lynn Gunn and Alex Babinski performed acoustic versions of “Only Love” and “Ghosts.”
PVRIS did a good job making their fans feel at home with sarcastic wit, brief moments of “awkward humor”, and an overall solid set.
The band performed a brief encore before concluding the engagement.
