Who: Tropicalia Music + Taco Festival 2017
Where: The Queen Mary, Long Beach, California
When: November 11, 2017
A variety of artists from different genres came together on Saturday at the Queen Mary Park in Long Beach, California for the first Tropicalia Music and Taco Festival: an event with great music and free tacos.
Artists from different decades took over the four stages at the Latin inspired festival, entertaining a crowd of all ages.
Las Cafeteras, Sonora Dinamita, Kali Uchis, Los Tigres Del Norte and several more brought Latin culture to the Tropicalia stage. There were a lot of great covers throughout the night, but not one as memorable as Uchis’s cover of Elvis Crespo’s hit song, “Suavemente.”
The lineup made the festival a place to not only experience nostalgic sounds from artists of the past, but to also discover new music from on the rise artists like Cuco and Jorja Smith.
Another up and coming sound came from The Buttertones, an alternative rock band that performed with tracks from their 2017 album, Gravedigging at the start of the festival; bringing great tunes while people enjoyed their free, unlimited tacos before the lines got too hectic.
Alina Baraz took the stage in the later hours of the day, swaying the audience with an impeccable performance of her hit song “Maybe” from her album, Urban Flora as well as two new songs: “Buzzin” and “Electric.”
Jhene Aiko headlined the festival at the Dia De Los Puercos Stage at midnight, and brought the event to a memorable close.
The sold out event is one for the books thanks to all the contributing artists who were able to give unforgettable performances for hundreds of people that attended the waterfront venue.
