Who: Tyler, the Creator, Vince Staples
When: January 27, 2018
Where: Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon
Tyler, the Creator’s album Flower Boy peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200, while Vince Staples’ Big Fish Theory hit number 6. They announced a 23 date winter tour together that quickly became a highly anticipated tour to start 2018.
With Portland being only the second date, not much was known and many did not know what to expect. Both artists complimented their acclaimed music with intricate set displays. Vince’s stage surrounded him with lights: rotating floor lights lined the front, along the sides spotlights, were set up to shine on him, and a large LED multi-panel set-up stood behind him. Much like his performance and music, Tyler’s stage was awe-striking and suited the self-acclaimed “Flower Boy.” After the instrumental intro, a curtain dropped to reveal a stage full of forestry and foliage, and Tyler standing atop a large tree. A trunk was knocked over to allow him to walk down onto the stage, and back and forth throughout his performance.
