The popular Northwest music festival Sasquatch Music Festival was held once again at The Gorge Amphitheater Memorial Day weekend. Despite cancellations for various artists and criticism from many previous Sasquatch attendees who say the festival’s lineup was lacking, thousands of music lovers still flocked to the beautiful Washington venue to enjoy the music and camp out with other like minded people.
The first day of the festival was on Friday, and the excitement was buzzing through the air despite the main headliner Frank Ocean cancelling due to production delays beyond his control. The festival was able to to replace him with LCD Soundsystem which pleased a majority of the attendees. Other performances on the first day included: Sleigh Bells, The Hotelier, Kaytranada, and The Head & The Heart. Check out summaries of these bands below!
Sleigh Bells:I personally wasn’t a fan of the band’s music, but I loved watching the bands set. The female fronted band brought a lot of energy and she even crowd surfed during one song.
The Hotelier: I wasn’t able to catch all of their performance but from what I saw the crowd was really enjoying the band and the band sounded great.
The Head & The Heart: The crowd was very excited to see the Seattle band. Their set was during sunset and with their music the vibes at the main stage were so chill. During the band’s set they took a moment to reflect on Chris Cornell and how in the band’s early days they saw him at their neighbor’s garage sale so they played a cover of Soundgarden’s song “Fall on Black Days” and Chris came in told them they were playing it a bit fast which had the entire crowd laughing and after this story they played a heartfelt cover of “Temple of The Dog” song “Hunger Strike”.
LCD Soundsystem: The band was great live, although I was personally not a fan of the genre of music they performed, I could tell they were putting on a great show. The crowd really enjoyed the band’s set and showed their appreciation by dancing and setting off sparklers – a very pretty yet very dangerous gesture. The crowd was ecstatic when the band shared the news of them finishing their upcoming album two days prior.
Kaytranada: Fans who wants to stay and dance a bit longer after the headliner was finished headed over to another stage to see Kaytranada, a Canadian DJ. Everyone was dancing and seemed to be having a fun time.
