Who: Kill or Be Kind Tour, Samantha Fish

A sold-out crowd watched Samantha Fish perform at the Vinyl Music Hall on February 16th at the last stop of her Kill or Be Kind Tour. This is the second time I have seen her perform. Once again she amazed me with her guitar prowess. Being the only guitarist on stage, every guitar sound heard was from her hands. She rotated through guitar after guitar with my favorite being the 4-string Cigar Box. Some guitarists use a rack system to control their sound. Fish, however, uses an old fashion pedalboard which she kneels at between songs to tweak her sound.
Fish’s performance ranged from slow blues with a cleaner tone to up-tempo blues rock with a dirty sound. The audience was into the show the whole night with shouts of “we love you, Samantha”. “Bulletproof” was the first song of the night. She used her Cigar Box with a heavily distorted tone. The song featured powerful vocals by Fish with an amazing slide solo. The set included most of the songs from her album Kill or Be Kind as wells songs from Belle of the West, and Chills and Fever. The last song was “Bitch on the Run” from Wild Heart.
Fish hung around after the show to interact with her fans by signing autographs and taking photos. This was the last show on the US segment of her tour. On February 28, she begins a month-long European Tour with stops in the UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Germany. She returns to the US at the end of March to join Kenny Wayne Shepherd on tour.
