Photos / Review: Mat Kearney at Portland, Oregon’s Crystal Ballroom

Who: Mat Kearney

When: Feb. 22, 2018

Where: Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon

Despite a power outage at the venue for the majority of the day, and through multiple technical issues throughout the set, nothing stopped the Oregon native from returning home and playing a sold-out show. Born and raised in Eugene, the Crystal Ballroom was packed in welcoming Kearney to the city of Portland.

Mat Kearney is currently on his “Crazytalk” Tour through the U.S., ahead of his upcoming album release Crazytalk. Crazytalk will mark the first independent release from Mat Kearney, after the release of his prior two albums on Universal and Columbia Records. Kearney hopes to release the album in May. Prior to the album, Kearney’s released a 5 track self-titled EP with four new tracks “Kings & Queens”, “Don’t Cry for Me”, “Face to Face”, and “Better Than I Used to Be.” The EP also features an acoustic version of “Better Than I Used to Be.”

With, currently, five albums released and a diverse sound Kearney brings through the progression and evolution of his music, fans can expect a well-balanced set. The night started with his most well-known song, “Hey Mama”, and other fan favorites such as “Ships and The Night” and “One Black Sheep.” Kearney mixed up his set and surprised the audience as well, with a cover of Camila Cabello’s “Havana.”
