Photos | Review: K.Flay runs a marathon on stage in Detroit

If you have never seen K.Flay perform live then you have not seen energy like hers on stage before. She becomes a blue blur of jumping, headbanging, and windmilling. It really is a sight to behold, but seconds later you remember this is a concert and “Four Letter Words,” the lead track off of her recently released album Inside Voices / Outside Voices, hits you in the chest.

K.Flay’s tracks range from hard hitting rock to hip-hop to a bit of spoken word with slowed down interludes where she would tell the crowd a story that would lead into a song. Some of those moments included Kristine opening up and sharing with the audience things about her life, but also speaking out and giving encouragement to everyone in attendance to find their voice, something, let’s be real, we should all spend a bit more time doing.

All of that led to an incredible end to her set with a cover of X Ambassadors “Zen” getting the crowd singing along before K.Flay launched into the intense “Blood in the Cut” off of her 2018 album Every Where Is Some Where. A two song encore ended the evening with the last sound again going back to 2018 with her hit “High Enough.”

You really do need to get to a K.Flay show and if you’re in the states that might be a bit hard with this current tour wrapping up most dates in early April before a month long tour in Europe throughout May. Really though, next time K.Flay hits the road do not miss out!
