Who: Hogan’s Goat
Where: Ralph’s Rock Diner, Worcester, Massachusetts
When: June 15, 2018
Hogan’s Goat is a rock band out of Nashville that you should be keeping an eye on. They released their self-titled debut album last year and I have been waiting for a chance to see them ever since, so when they came to Worcester, I jumped at the chance to be able to see them live for the first time. Ralph’s Rock Diner is a cute venue, but it does not have the best audio. Despite that, Hogan’s Goat was able to still make quite a mark with their music.
Their set was mostly made up of songs off of the album, except for the intro, including “Pennymade,” “Annie Off The Rails,” “Shit Kicker,” and “Drinkin’ With The Priest.” It took them a couple of songs to really get into the set – which is not surprising considering at what stage their career is at – but the further into the set they got, the more you could see the band really get into the music. The stage was far too small for them; they wanted to jump around and have fun and the small stage prevented that. More than that, they have a very big sound which the venue could not contain. Their music is dirty, rough around the edges rock ‘n roll that is a lot of fun to listen to. While their album is good, the songs sound so much better live. Hogan’s Goat has the potential to be a great rock band and I absolutely recommend running to see them live.
