Who: Dance Gavin Dance, Polyphia, Icarus the Owl

Back in October, when we thought that all tours in 2017 had already been made known, Dance Gavin Dance announced a short run in which they would play their latest album, Mothership, in its entirety. I was personally ecstatic for the chance to get to see them for the third time in a year, and at a sold out show nonetheless.
Icarus the Owl opened with their funky alternative sounds and really got into their own set as they danced along to their songs. The band released their 5th studio album, Rearm Circuits, a few days earlier on December 1st. They were sure to give the audience a nice preview of what they could expect, which is enticing bliss in the form of music.
Polyphia was up next, and the crowd could not contain their excitement for this band. They have proved to the scene that instrumental without vocals can exist and thrive. They played fan favorites including “Euphoria” and “Champagne.” They also played songs off their newest album, The Most Hated, such as “Icronic” and “Loud.” Polyphia continues to gain momentum and it’s clear to see why. Not many instrumental bands can convey the energy of a full band with vocals. One minute their crowd could be seen jumping in unison, and the next, crowd surfers were piling up to the barricade.
Dance Gavin Dance hit the stage and the venue was filled with smiles all around. They opened up with the oh so energetic “Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise” and all hell broke loose (in the best way). The mosh pits started and the energy skyrocketed. Lead vocalist Tilian Pearson could be seen smoothly dancing along to songs such as “Betrayed By The Game,” while guitarist Will Swan bobbed his head to his guitar riffs. Both Pearson and touring guitarist/backing vocalist Andrew Wells displayed some of the most impressive live vocals I have ever heard. Lacing those with Jon Mess’ unclean vocals and you have the unique result of suave chaos. In my opinion, the best representation of that can be heard in “Flossie Dickey Bounce.” The band closed the show with the hit “Inspire The Liars.”
Dance Gavin Dance recently announced a U.K. tour with Veil of Maya. The band also hinted that they will be reaching out to more cities in 2018, so stay tuned!
