Photos l Review: Scotty McCreery in New Hampshire

Who: Scotty McCreery

Where: Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach, New Hampshire

When: September 27, 2018

Scotty McCreery blew my mind. From the minute he and his band stepped on stage, the performance was top notch and impressive.

If you are like me, the first time you heard McCreery’s name was when he performed on American Idol. If you listen to country radio, you will have heard “Five More Minutes” and “This Is It.” Neither one of these experiences can prepare you for McCreery’s live show. He is charismatic and sucks the audience in. The set was the perfect amount of time, not too short and not a minute too long. “Seasons Change” got the audience pumped up as the first song. His setlist included the two radio singles as well as “Boys From Back Home,” “Water Tower Town,” and “Move It On Out.” He also performed some impressive covers that included Garth Brooks’ “Ain’t Going Down (‘Til The Sun Comes Up),” James Taylor’s “Home In My Mand/Carolina In My Mind,” and a really impressive medley of some of the best and greatest names in country music, like Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever Amen” and Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” The entire set was perfection from start to finish. The song that sealed the night for me, however, was McCreery’s amazing cover of The Eagles’ “Take It Easy.” The Eagles are my favorite band and I have found very few covers of their songs that I enjoy. McCreery’s take on “Take It Easy” honored the original and kept it simple; I think I may even prefer McCreery’s version.

Scotty McCreery put on one of the best shows I have seen this year. He feels fresh and authentic on stage and does not waste the audience’s time. You absolutely have to make it a priority to see McCreery live.
